Summary/Abstract: Understanding the meaning of proverbs requires different types of cognitive abilities. It often happens that even in the simplest ones, the complex meaning is best hidden. In the teaching process that prepares students for work in class, proverbs are used as methodical material for oral and written language content. The wording of the proverbs is short and reflects the essence just like the titles of the stories. This research includes six of them, which are based on universally accepted life values, and the students, by their own choice, used them for the title of their own stories. The paper answers the following research questions: which proverbs do students choose most often as the title of their stories; whether there is a connection between the title and the content of the newly created stories and whether the selected proverb is repeated in the content of the story itself
