Summary/Abstract: V. Sirutavičius reviewed and estimated Natalija Kasatkina‘s and Andrius Marcinkevičius’ monograph “The Russians in the Society of the Republic of Lithuania in 1918-1940. Construction of Historical Retrospection”. The authors investigate circumstances and conditions which, one way or the other, influenced social integration of comparatively small Lithuanian Russian society into Lithuania’s national state and society in 1918-1940. The reviewer claims that the monograph comprehensively presents the development of educational and cultural societies of the Russian ethnical community as well as the contribution of the Lithuanian Russian intellectuals and artists to Lithuania’s cultural life; this way it was shown that the Russians did not consider themselves to be an ethnic-social monolith as many Lithuanians of that period imagined.
