Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the studies of 48 sons of burghers from Poznań, matriculated at various universities during the years 1490-1505. The analyses cover their social standing – the Stratification is based on the professions and wealth of their fathers and their participation in the municipal governing bodies. Next comes the analysis of the role of university education in advancing to the elites ruling the city. The attached catalogue contains biographic sketches of 48 students with details of their families and further careers
