Suspension of the functions of godparents and confirmation sponsors in the Italian Church

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present the reasons and implications of the temporary suspension of the functions of godparents and witnesses of confirmation in the Italian Church, in order to draw attention to the contemporary profile and importance of godparents and witnesses in sacramental pastoral ministry. The issue of godparents and witnesses of confirmation requires further research in order for the legislator to undertake appropriate solutions arising from their almost total absence in light of the tasks they have undertaken in the administration of the sacraments under consideration.
