Summary/Abstract: The subject of this study is the biomedical aspect of clinical miscarriage. The paper is based on the assumption that the biomedical analysis of clinical miscarriage is a prerequisite to its further thanatological characteristics. The aim of the study was to prove that the investigation of the biomedical conditions alone would allow the determination of the basic predictors that reveal the phenomenon of spontaneous miscarriage as a thanatological event in the psychosocial aspect. The review discussed the definition criteria of miscarriage and the diagnostic criteria for early pregnancy to distinguish clinically confirmed losses from biochemical pregnancies. Estimates of the frequency of failure in both categories namely preclinical and clinical were presented. A synthesis of the physiology of miscarriage was made based on a detailed characterization of its multicriteria typologies, a descriptive account of the symptomatology and pathomechanism of the miscarriage process, a description of diagnostic methods and forms of therapeutic management. The most frequently cited aetiological factors of miscarriage in the obstetric literature were listed. With regard to the preparation of couples for conceiving a child after a previous miscarriage, the main principles of miscarriage prevention that can be easily implemented in the preconception period and in the early stages of a new pregnancy were distinguished.
