Summary/Abstract: In 2020 we investigated an earth mound reported as a prehistoric burial mound. The central area of the burial mound was damaged by the excavation of a large, rectangular hole, which might have served as a cellar/ice chamber and which dates to the first half of the 19th century. No prehistoric burials were discovered; therefore, it is still uncertain whether this mound functioned as burial mound or if it was indeed a natural hump. Concurrently, the pit/cellar, given its central location and size, could have destroyed the primary burial. The presence of the mantle in the mound’s structure seems to be indicative of a rather artificial construction. On the mound and in its vicinity over 80 coins were discovered (the majority Austrian kreutzers, and also Ottoman and Romanian coins) dated to the first half of the 19th century, and also a few metal objects, which, together with the large hole (and a possibly related construction, built on top), could be associated with the presence of a military encampment.
