Summary/Abstract: The paper contains research results into the functioning of transportation and communication in the conditions of the severe and long winter of 1946–1947. The first part of the text presents the dynamic weather changes. The central paragraphs of the paper demonstrate findings concerning road, railway, and waterways transportation during the first three months of 1947, including the activities to maintain the land routes’ traffic flow and the access to the seaports. The chosen examples made it possible to present the severe winter’s impact on the state’s functioning and everyday life.
