Summary/Abstract: Among the important names referred to while discussing the question of the Romanian language as a Romance language and of its individuality among the Romance languages, the name Sextil Puşcariu stands out due to his scientific activity in the field. In the following we intend to present data on the period of time during which Sextil Puşcariu attended the German University of Leipzig, where he has as a professor and doctoral tutor the Romance researcher and dialectologist Gustav Weigand. Afterwards Puşcariu attends important courses at the University of Paris, and in Vienna he meets Wilhelm Mayer-Lübke. Under the guidance of the latter he begins his university career. At the same time, we wish to analyze the relationship between Weigand and Puşcariu, in order to explain the differences of opinion between the two regarding the origin of the Romanian language.
