Summary/Abstract: Preganancy and mothership during the teenage years are two interconnected phenomena, frequently approached in scientific studies and social policies, due to the great impact that they have on the young families (single or both parents), and on the whole community and society level. The major predictors of teenage pregnancy refer to individual, domestic and vicinity factors, also to contextual factors such as race, ethnicity and society. The most important consequences that the teenager has to suffer include socioeconomical and professional integration problems, and for the child, problems related to health and education. Reducing the number of pregnant teenagers is possible by creating and implementing prevention and intervention programs. In order to prevent the abandonment of children born of teenage mothers, the involvement of the social protection services is necessary. An important role in this process is played by the Maternal Centers.
