Summary/Abstract: The Days and Nights of a Delayed Student by Gib I. Mihăescu illustrates humorously a provincial’s wanderings through the capital during an excessively prolonged studenthood, for 11 years. In all these years, without being concerned at all with his studies, as he does not sit for any of his exams, the hero spends his time with various amusements. He made a real career of leaving the rented accommodation at night, leaving behind the overdue rent and the wounded pride of the abandoned landladies. He uses the same method at restaurants, leaving without paying for his meals. The situation changes radically when he falls in love with an eminent PhD student. He now knows the suffering caused by an unrequited love. The novel ends tragically with the young woman’s death caused by a provoked abortion. The hero is totally changed after all these events and gives up on the shallow life he has led until recently.
