Summary/Abstract: In this paper, two of the main characteristics of spoken language syntax will be discussed: dislocations and doubling of the predicate’s external argument (subject) of declarative sentences. To illustrate syntactic variations for subject position data from spontaneous and public speech, as well as from informal computer mediated communication are observed. Structural and discourse-oriented analyses applied here show how speakers use syntactic structures in spoken interaction. To identify when and why such variations occur, Topic-Focus configurations are also present.
