Summary/Abstract: The article discussed linguistic corpora as a tool in the law-making process. First, the authors explained the concept of a linguistic corpus, i.e. an electronic set of texts used for linguistic research. Then they discussed the previous applications of linguistic corpora in legal contexts. The authors then presented possible applications of linguistic corpora in the law-making process. They indicated that not only practical but also normative reasons speak for their use. These tools may contribute to a more effective implementation of the principles of legislative technique, regulated in the binding Zasady techniki prawodawczej [Principles of legislative technique], that is most of all the principle of communicativeness (in this context the basic role is played by general corpora) and the principle of terminological consistency (in this context, it is necessary to build a specialised corpus of texts of binding legal acts).
