Summary/Abstract: The article strives to present the legacy of normative theory authored by Helena Radlińska (1879–1954), the founder of the Polish school of social pedagogy. The focus of the article is on the category of the social services’ ethos proposed by Radlińska and such values as, among others: freedom and independence, the rule of law, civil liberties, respect for every human being, social sensitivity, nonconformism, solidarity and fraternity, and the fight against social injustice. These solid values present in Radlińska’s heritage are nowadays an important source of knowledge about education and democracy. They make social pedagogy an appropriate response to wide array of today’s modernization processes, as it seeks to protect and develop the “human life-world”.
