Summary/Abstract: Semantically linked notions of guilt and punishment are realized in biblical Hebrew through collections of roots which carry within themselves idiomatic images. Guilt is first of all - apart from distortion and damage - going astray, lacking prudence, and being separated from the group of relatives and friends against the will of the leader, and losing vital strength.
