Summary/Abstract: In case Ingmar GB Ltd vs Eaton Leonard Technologies Inc. (C-381/98) European Court of Justice on 9 November 2000 gave its vision on the relationship between two legal principles. On the one hand, it is the principle of party autonomy during the selection of applicable law - principle of private international law. On the other hand, there is the principle of mandatory rules that are part of acquis communiautaire - principle of the law of European Community. This complex case and the Court's reasoning gave raise to scholarly debate.
