The Ascension Church of Golia Monastery in Iasi

Summary/Abstract: The study presents the Church of Golia Monastery, tracing the transformations undergone by this17th century monument, both the architectural ones and the successive repaintings, with a special interest in the original painting. The author analyzed the iconographic program in the component spaces of the church – altar, naos, pronaos, with special attention to the area of the window and the porch, due to the recent restorations that brought to light a part of the original painting. He also analyzed both the rich iconographic solutions used to decorate these atypical surfaces, often fragmented at the level of the cafas architecture, as well as the plastic components of the artistic style and the technical quality of the pictorial layer.
