Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to show a negative influence of the German language on the mother tongue, the Bosnian language used by Bosnian emigrants in German cities and negative consequences as the result of different understanding of the central role of a mother tongue. The main purpose of the paper is to show the degree of the knowledge of the mother tongue of a group of children who finished their elementary education in German cities, where the main language was exclusively German. The purpose is to see their attitude towards their mother tongue and how willing they are to learn Bosnian. Its aim is also to discover preventive measures in order to preserve the Bosnian language among newer generations of children of the Bosnian origin.
