Summary/Abstract: The author discusses and compares the views of Polish linguists on the origin and development of the fricative r (ř) in Old Polish and the development of the fricative r (ř) in various regional dialects of the Polish language. It cannot be ruled out that some researchers mistakenly confused the sound ř with rž. Therefore, a proposal is put forward to analyse the existing recordings of Polish and Kashubian dialects by means of more modern computer software. The similarities and differences in the realization of ř in the Czech language and in some Polish and Kashubian dialects should also be investigated.
