Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes religious and political affairs in Działdowo county in 1945-1946 based on the reports of Pastor Ewald Lodwich-Ledwa of the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession in Poland. The Polish county of Działdowo was annexed by the Third Reich in 1939. The Pastor’s accounts deal with political situation in the county, which was influenced by the fact that many inhabitants of Działdowo joined the Volksliste (German People’s List) after the German invasion. In 1945 and 1946, members of the Protestant community were regarded as ethnic Germans by the authorities and new Polish settlers. The Protestants were subjected to severe repressions. Some Evangelical churches were seized by the Catholics. Pastor Ewald Lodwich-Leda faced hostility from the political authorities and some Polish Catholics over his attempts to protect the Protestant community.
