Summary/Abstract: The author of the article analyses the anthropological issues contained in the encyclicals of Benedict XVI: Deus caritas est (25.12.2005), Spe salvi (30.11.2007) and Caritas in veritate (29.06.2009). In the first encyclical among the essential topics affecting human existence the following were distinguished: man’s existential response to God’s love; relativistic climate of ethical chaos and an attempt to resolve the question of “has agape poisoned eros”? In the second text of the pope the leading themes are: the dialogue of Christianity with the modern world; intellectual culture towards the issues of progress and the communal dimension of the Christian faith. As the message of the third text the author sees: man as the superior value of all progress; the threat of a “market and economy without truth”; globalization as an opportunity for human development and the ultimate goal as a result of economic activity. In conclusion, the author presents Benedict XVI’s conviction about the superior role of Christian humanism in the service of human development.
