Summary/Abstract: Undoubtedly, one of the most important factors which direct the foreign policies of countries in today’s age is energy. Russia and members of the European Union, due to their geographical closeness and mutual need, have defined energy and the security of its supply, demand and transferas the common intersection of the economic policy, even security, and tend to turn to their advantage the today’s undeniable dependence. The energetic relations, especially the vitally important gas exchange between Russia and the European Union, within the previous several decades has arrived to various ups and downs, whereas the tension or the interaction left a huge impact on the security and economic circumstances of both parties. By analysing the asymmetrical interdependence of Russia and the European Union, by stressing the important new events which have caused additional tensions between the two sides (the war in Ukraine), this paper finds the complete cessation of the mutual dependence to be impossible and emphasises that Russia and the European Union, besides the energy issue, still remain strategic trade partners, and huge energetic resources still remain defining factors in between the relations of the two parties, and the paper considers that the removal of tensions and the continuation of the gas exchange between Russia and the European Union remain unavoidable.
