Summary/Abstract: Ioan Gh. Botez (1892-1953) The life of Ioan Gh. Botez was dedicated to the study of anthropology and paleontology. In 1926 he received the "Broca” award of the Anthropological Society in Paris. He was among the leaders of the National Peasant Party. After 1948, he was excluded from the University of Iasi and imprisoned. He died in 1953, in the labour camp at the Cap Midia, on the Danube-Black Sea Channel. Gheorghe Cialâk (1886-1977) Gheorghe Cialâk, a division general, took part in the Second World War on the eastern front and was decorated several times. While on the western front, he was arrested and imposed mandatory domicile. In 1951, he was arrested again and kept in preventive custody for four years. lorgu Iordan (1888-1986) The cultural and scientific personality of lorgu Iordan was shadowed by his political image. In the third decade he joined some organizations inspired by the Communist International. After 1944, he became an important figure of the communist intelligentsia and was appointed plenipotentiary minister to Moscow. Vasile Marin (1905-1937) Vasile Marin, a lawyer, joined the Iron Guard Movement under the influence of A.C. Cuza. He was arrested for a short period in December 1933, when the Iron Guard Movement was disintegrating. On 24 November 1936, together with a group of Iron Guard members, he leaves for Spain to fight in Franco's army. He died on 13 January 1937, on the Majadahonda front. Gheorghe Tătărescu (1886-1957) A liberal in politics, Gheorghe Tătărescu held various portfolios during the inter-war period and was Romania's prime-minister six times. In 1945, Tătărescu joined the Petru Groza government as vice-president of the Council of Ministers and as a Foreign Minister. In november 1947, he was removed from the Government of Romania and imposed forced domicile. He was arrested on the night of 5-6‘May 1950. He died on 28 March 1957.
