Summary/Abstract: By the Advisory Opinion issued at the request of the Court of Cassation of Armenia, the European Court of Human Rights concluded that the principle of legality of criminalization, as regulated by art. 7 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, prohibits the reactivation of criminal liability after the expiry of the limitation period even in the case of acts of torture prohibited by art. 3 of the Convention.
