Summary/Abstract: Following the occupation of Bessarabia by the Soviet troops in June 1940, under Moscow’s direct supervision and control the borders of the new Soviet Moldovan Socialist Republic were drawn in an arbitrary manner. So, on August 2, 1940, the political alienation from Bessarabia of the Hotin, Cetatea Albă and Ismail counties was made official.
