Summary/Abstract: In this article we propose to discuss the similarities and dissimilarities between the two terms, academic discourse and university discourse, and to verify whether or not we can establish a relationship of synonymy between them. We will not dwell long on the distinction between text and discourse, which has already been discussed by many linguists. We propose to describe academic discourse on the basis of the abundant literature, which emphasizes the explanatory character of university discourse, which would distinguish it from academic discourse, which is argumentative in most cases. Academic discourse is more closely related to scientific writing, with which it has much in common. Both types of discourse have a well-specified target audience, which requires an adequate structure, a lexicon and forms of address appropriate to the circumstances. By highlighting all these characteristics, we propose to demonstrate that the answer to the question of the title is negative.
