Reactions of Selected Entities to the Destruction of the Nord Stream Gas Pipelines. The Problem of the Quality of Information Present in the Public Space

Summary/Abstract: The destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines in September 2022 resulted in differing opinions in the global media regarding the perpetrators of this attack. The author’s thesis is that in the very diverse messages coming from many actors, it is very difficult to identify the perpetrators of this act. In addition to the naturally conflicting views of the representatives of the various countries involved, there is a great deal of information in cyberspace designed not to convey the position of specific players, but to mislead the public. Western media most often blame Russia for the attack, but opponents of this view show its weaknesses. The paper presents examples of disinformation contained in media around the Nord Stream attacks, including the role of fake news, sometimes relatively easy to pick up but undoubtedly influencing the formation of public opinion. The article uses a factor analysis and a predictive method.
