Summary/Abstract: After August 23, 1944, many generals and high-ranking officers, who had carried out orders, during the three years of war on the eastern front (1941-1944), were arrested and imprisoned, charged with being “war criminals” or “participants in the provocation of the country’s disaster.” For the best possible knowledge of the historical truth, previously unknown documents are published, referring to these issues: the views of general Dimitrie Carlaonț, former commander of the city of Iași in July-August 1941, accused after the war of supervising the massacre conducted in Iași against Jews in late June 1941, and the statement of general Constantin Pantazi, former state secretary of the Land Army (1940- 1942) and minister of war (1942-1944), sentenced to death in May 1946. Recent books: The Romanian Army in World War II, 1941-1945. Encyclopedic Dictionary, 1999.
