Summary/Abstract: The “cultural revolution” was maybe the most difficult period of the Ceaușescu era. The communists tried to replace the universal principles governing literary creation with party directives. Everything had to follow the drift of the “revolution,” literature and the other arts being expected to help shape the awareness of socialist-type “new man.” Starting from Ioan Petrovici’s view that “culture alone can create the best conditions for a sincere democracy and genuine equality,” we wish to facilitate, by publishing this document, a more accurate image of an era that ended not too long ago. The author reproduces the shorthand report of the meeting of the Bureau of the Writers Union of the Socialist Republic of Romania, October 15, 1975.
