Summary/Abstract: Alexandru Sanielevici belonged to a distinguished family of Jewish intellectuals. Anti-Semitic persecutions and the exclusion enforced by Antonescu’s government exacerbated his antifascism and anti-Nazi feeling and formally propelled him into the ranks of the communist party. He was able to pursue a remarkable career after 1944 because in fact he never became an opponent of the Establishment. A review of nuclear physicist Alexandru Sanielevici’s case provides arguments for historians to focus on the groups of intellectuals that gravitated around the communist party.
