Summary/Abstract: Against the background of a gradual deterioration of the democratic system in Romania, the ceding of Northern Transylvania marked the point when social, political and national discontent favored the success of Gen. Ion Antonescu’s coup, backed by the Legionary Movement through public actions. The stage of the takeover by Gen. Ion Antonescu outlined the legislative framework of the new regime, based on Law Decrees 3052-3057 that functioned as constitutional acts whereby Antonescu became the real head of state while the king was deprived of most of his traditional prerogatives.
