Summary/Abstract: The different aspects in the analysis of the vampire motif, within the Balkan and Macedonian folklore chronotope, in the cultural memory, can reach the “childhood of humanity”, inscribed in mythology, in tradition, in the collective genesis, i.e. folklore. One of the attempts is to follow the cultural process of transformation of the character of the vampire, from folklore to literature. The power of myth to be a central shaping force of literature is highlighted, through the persistence in folk works, whose narrative and authoritativeness are sufficient to follow the mythical figure of the vampire as it transforms on the wings of popular imagination. Ancient beliefs and cults are connected with the iconography of the vampire within the collecting activity and creative written word of the treasurer Marko Cepenkov, in his recorded beliefs and mythical lore about vampires, as well as more widely, in the activity of other Balkan collectors of folk literature, as well as folklorists.
