Summary/Abstract: The principle of self-determination has been frequently discussed especially due to the independence movements in post-colonial countries and the demands of various ethnic groups in these countries. The attitude of Western countries towards these demands has had an important role in the realization of these demands. This study examines the problems created by the principle of self-determination, the answers given by the West to these problems, and the motivations behind them from the Neorealist perspective and through the cases of South Sudan and Palestine. Written to help understand the attitude of the West towards the issue of self-determination in post-colonial countries, this study proves its importance by presenting a different approach to the developments in these countries. This qualitative research has utilized secondary resources and used the content analysis method.
