Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the concept of early literacy in the foreign language classroom. When children begin learning a foreign language, they have usually already had their first experience with literacy in their first language. In the foreign language classroom, on the other hand, they are just taking their first steps, making the development of early literacy in the foreign language classroom particularly challenging. This article presents some challenges and seeks solutions from the perspective of foreign language teaching. Since picture books are usually the most important medium for promoting early literacy in the first language, this article attempts to show how picture books can be used to promote early literacy in the foreign language.
