Summary/Abstract: The article presents motifs of Podlasie and Białystok in the early collections of writings by Joanna Siedlecka, which had been published first in her debut Stypa(1981) and later also inPoprawinyandParszywasytuacja(both 1984). The article concludes that Siedlecka does not relyon clich ́ed storylines in her writings about Podlasie. She also avoids ideological rhetoric and with irony punctuates the absurdity of everyday life in Communism.
