Summary/Abstract: The contribution supports the idea of setting up an educational programme that focuses on pupils from socio-economically disadvantaged environments, self-awareness in the narrower and broader social contexts and the development of the practical skills needed to protect oneself and others (protection of life, health and property). A safe society and the concept of protecting the population is increasingly becoming a subject of expert debate, one element of which consists of devoting attention to enhancing the ability to resist the adverse influences and circumstances of the wider population and to building competences with respect to decision-making processes when faced with emergency situations. This debate is taking place at several different levels, i.e. legislation, technical measures, financial security and education. This paper focuses on the importance of education with regard to the protection of the population.
