Summary/Abstract: This article presents an assessment by the security apparatus of the attitudes of the clergy of the Catholic Church in the Olsztyn province towards the election campaign and the elections to the Sejm of the Polish People’s Republic of the first term of 26 October 1952. The analysis was made on the basis of a document prepared by the employees of Department V of the Voivodeship Office of Public Security in Olsztyn for the needs of Department V of the Ministry of Public Security in Warsaw. It contains selected characteristics of lay and religious clergy, as well as general charac- teristics of female and male religious orders – drawn up in terms of their attitude to participation in the electoral act. In the presented material – with its dichotomous division into “positive” and “hostile” clergy – the information on the behavior of the so-called “patriotic priests” and on the repressions applied to the clergy contesting the progressing process of Stalinisation of the state system is of particular importance.
