Summary/Abstract: The assessment of a country's willingness to join the euro area is based on criteria and rules that are determined not by us but by those who evaluate us. Moreover, these criteria and rules are changing, as the euro area itself and its institutions are changing. However, whether we have met these criteria and rules on a sustainable basis is done not by us but by our European partners, the final decision is beyond our direct control.
