Summary/Abstract: The works of Terézia Mora deal with hybrid cultural forms; her heroes are simultaneously both products and victims of their multilingual and multicultural environment. This paper analyzes Mora’s short story collection »Seltsame Materie« and the novel »Das Ungeheuer«. The focus is on the interaction between the depicted experiences with the Alien and effects of alterity on the one hand, and the linguistic and narrative means and strategies employed on the other hand. The paper attempts to offer a new reading of Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of ›small literatures‹ as a specific poetics of intercultural literature and detect it in Mora’s oeuvre.
