Summary/Abstract: The article presents the ‘Sketches for sermons’ which were composed in the milieu of Polish soldiers interned in Switzerland during World War II. The issues under examination include questions of genre, in particular questions of linguistic style in texts of different kinds. The aim is to characterize the properties of the pastoral language of that time, as presented in texts, and in this way to display the character of the language of pre-conciliar doctrine. In addition the article highlights the differences (first of all normative) and similarities (in particular, rhetorical and stylistic) in relation to the contemporary post-conciliar transmission of the faith. The article likewise provides information about texts hitherto undiscussed and which are of value both historically and linguistically.
