Summary/Abstract: The exercise of the active electoral right concerns the individual directly, but is embedded in a social context. The influence of public opinion on the individual voter is unavoidable. Published opinion polls on preferences nationwide are an important means of this influence. It would not be appropriate to have a situation in which it is mainly the polls that determine the results of elections. The subject of this article is the role of pre-election polls in an election campaign and the ways in which they affect election results. It refers to the more important, not necessarily in one direction, effects of polls influencing the electorate. In this paper also consideres the relevantness of more detailed legal regulation of opinion polls during an election campaign.
