Ukrainian society under war: An insider’s sociological notes

Summary/Abstract: When Marek Czyżewski suggested that I prepare a text on the sociological aspects of the Russo-Ukrainian war, I caught myself thinking about the need to comprehend the new social reality in which we have found ourselves since February 24, 2022. Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine has already changed the European security order, but it has also become a major challenge to global peace and security. For the first time since the end of World War II and the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, the world is on the verge of a new global military confrontation with real risks of the state-aggressor using nuclear weapons.
