Summary/Abstract: “Observations on the tumular embankments, predominantly from the necropoleis in the Getic area of Northeastern Bulgaria, suggest the possibility of examining yet another interesting aspect of the burial rites of the Thracian Getae, which is closely connected with Thracian cosmogony. Studies of the elitist Hellenistic necropolis of the Getic centre in Sboryanovo, and especially the observations on tumuli 13, 12 and on the Ginina Mogila tumulus, demonstrated a clearly manifested three-stage process of piling, which was connected with certain ritual acts. (Гергова 1996, p. 45-49). The observations on the necropoleis in Northeastern Thrace indicate that this principle can also be noticed with the predominant part of the remaining tumuli in the region, irrespective of their dimensions (Радев 1992). It has also been attested in the land of the Odrysae, as well as in Macedonia (Гергова 1996, p. 45-49).”[…]
