Summary/Abstract: Most of the Banat historical province was conquered by the Ottoman army in the 16th century. By the mid–16th century the Ottoman Empire established what is known as the Vilayet of Timișoara (or Eyalet of Timișoara), an administrative-territorial unit which was dissolved in 1716 and, two years later, replaced by a similar unit named Temescher Banat. In the following pages I will attempt to reconstruct the defense system of the Eyâlet-i Temeşvar using information available in academic literature.
