A Contribution to the Study of Importance of Vakuf in Development of Handicraft

Summary/Abstract: The paper A Contribution to the Study of Importance of Vakuf in Development of Handicraft attempts to emphasize the decisive role that vakufs played in development of han dicrafts as well as in development of Bosnian cities in generaL Numerous authors have studied the institution of vakuf. Survey and confronting of the literature on vakufs and insight into endowment documents ("vakufnamas"). results in the conclusion that vakuf, represented an extremely important encouragement to development of handicrafts in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This paper illustrates the above stated using the example of Gazi-Husrev Bey 's vakuf, the largest and the most important endowment not only in Sarajevo but in Bosnia as a whole.
