Summary/Abstract: Dmitry Glukhovsky is Russia’s most popular contemporary writer. He has become known to a wide range of readers as a talented author of post–apocalyptic texts. On the basis of his first novel in this genre, Metro 2033 from 2005, in addition to the author’s own continuation, a whole family of texts with a similar profile was created under the Metro Universe brand, a computer game and a film script. Glukhovsky is a very active writer, but also a film scriptwriter whose works, based on his own literary oeuvre, bring him much attention from cinema enthusiasts. His professional career has led to writing through the world of media. Glukhovsky has had episodes working for major news channels, including the Russian propaganda channel Russia Today (RT). These credentials have enabled him to consciously and efficiently use his media influence already outside the industry. Following Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February 2022, the writer reaffirmed the radical anti–Putin and anti–war stance already known from his journalism, while at the same time trying to protect Russian culture from empty attacks in his speeches and exposing the criminal social impact of televised propaganda in Putin’s Russia. For his unbending stance and harsh criticism of the Kremlin, he was placed on a wanted list by the Russian prosecutor’s office in June 2022 with charges of discrediting the government.
