Summary/Abstract: The presence of metal denominations in proverbs is not due to a concern for their use in the field of work, but for their metaphorical or metonymic association with certain ideas and concepts. We propose to analyze the Romance paroemias where metal denominations appear in the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Romanian. The article will be organized around the metal denominations found in the proverbs: gold, silver, copper, iron, lead and steel. We will highlight the most important associations of the analyzed paroemias and we will presente the most representative paroemias. The text emphasizes on the similarities between the Romance languages, but also on the differences.
