The Spanish man, neutralization or syncretism?

Summary/Abstract: The case of sp. hombre was often treated as a lexical neutralization in Spanish semantics works, most of the time without any further explanation. Given the word’s definition, the term could also be considered a syncretism. The aim of the present work is to analyze the contemporary use of sp. hombre in three different types of texts in order to determine whether if we can speak about neutralization or syncretism in this case.
