Summary/Abstract: Russian folk lullabies are part of the rich Russian folklore that has been passed down for centuries from one generation to the next. Created as an expression of the finest and strongest feelings, lullabies convey very important messages to us. Determining speech acts in Russian folk lullabies can contribute to shedding light on and understanding the complex role that lullabies have. The paper examines speech acts in Russian folk lullabies and the objective of the research is to describe the types of speech acts and to identify the speech acts that dominate in Russian folk lullabies. It was also important to explore the complex task of recognizing and interpreting symbols in Russian lullabies that are the product of the cultural and religious tradition of the Russian people. The analysis of Russian folk lullabies with the help of the theory of speech acts has led to the conclusion that directives and expressives are the most commonly used speech acts in Russian lullabies.
