Summary/Abstract: Animation movies and series represent an appreciable part of the media consumption of children. Referring to the numerous studies on the various effects of animation on the adolescents, the article focuses on the formation of personal identity. It endorses the hypothesis that animation carries out a key communicational and informational function in the process of building up Freud’s triad (Id, Ego and Superego). The cultural differences between the screen images and the child’s own environment could induce confusion and identity crisis which might have an impact at an older age. Global media networks and film distribution create unified cultural environment which is sometimes inconsistent with the national and social norms and could lead to a feeling of marginalization. The issues of formation and reconstruction of personal identity under the influence of animation movies and series require additional research and empirical data.
