Summary/Abstract: The article summarizes modern methodological approaches to substantiating the need and directions for modernizing the economy. The actualization of the need for decentralization of power and the adoption of economic decisions as a component of the modernization process in the modern economic realities of Ukraine is disclosed. The complementarity and contradictions of modernization and decentralization are shown. It is concluded that it is necessary to develop a complementary model for the interaction of mutually directed processes of modernization and decentralization.
